In cooperation with Dowling College, SBPLI will host its inaugural FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Summer Day Camp for children ages 9-18. The camp will be held from Monday, July 23rd through Friday, July 27th on the Dowling campus in Oakdale at the beautiful Vanderbilt Summer House on the Connetquot River.

All instructors and assistants have experience with the FIRST robotics programs on Long Island. There will be beginner and advanced levels for FIRST LEGO League (FLL) campers and for high school robotics. Each FLL section will be divided into teams. These teams will build and program a robot to perform tasks. There will be a competition on Friday afternoon to which parents and friends will be invited.

High school students will learn all the systems that comprise a large 120-pound robot and will actually program and work on existing robots. This camp is designed for incoming freshmen and sophomores or those students who haven't played an active technical role on a high school FIRST robotics team.

The day camp will run each day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Campers are asked to arrive at 8:45 a.m. Children who are dropped off earlier will be brought to a supervised location, but transportation plans need to be made in advance. Snacks will be provided, but children must bring lunch.

The all-inclusive cost for the weeklong program is $450 for each camper. The form can be downloaded at http://camp.sbpli-lifirst.org and mailed to J. Anderson, 155 Hidden Pond Circle, Smithtown, NY. Please make checks payable to SBPLI, Inc. Payments may also be made via PayPal (please note there is a 3% processing fee for online payment).
