The Wheatley School Robotics Team Wins Musical Theme Contest

The Wheatley School Robotics Team #2872 was named the winner of the musical theme contest at the Long Island FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) kickoff, which took place January 7 at Stony Brook University's Javits Center. The theme, which was composed by team member Max Woods, will be used at SBPLI’s 2012 Long Island Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) on March 29-31 at Hofstra University.

There were 25 entries for this contest. Other teams included Walt Whitman, Island Trees, W.T. Clarke, Plainedge, Smithtown, Patchogue-Medford, West Islip, Southold, Sachem, Queens Vocational and Technical, Bay Shore, Longwood, Lindenhurst and Hicksville. Walt Whitman, Island Trees, Smithtown, West Islip, Southold and The Wheatley School submitted multiple entries.

The winning entry was chosen by the members of the SBPLI board. Students worked with their mentors on the robotics team and with staff members of the high schools’ music departments. The Wheatley School will be awarded a $1,000 check at this year’s Long Island Regional FRC.
