Winners Announced at FLL Qualifying Tournaments
Approximately 85 teams participated in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) qualifying tournaments on February 2-3 at Central Islip Senior High School, as they took part in this season’s Senior Solutions® Challenge during those two days. The tournament was sponsored by School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. and the Central Islip Public Schools.
In the Senior Solutions® Challenge, teams built, tested, and programmed an autonomous robot using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT to explore the topic of aging and how it may affect a person’s ability to maintain his or her lifestyle — solving issues like getting around, keeping in touch, or staying fit.
At the end of each day’s tournament, the winners were announced. The winning teams are:

Assuming that these teams have met the eligibility requirements for the SBPLI FLL Championship Tournament, they will be invited to participate in the Tournament on March 3 at Longwood High School.
“We would like to congratulate all the teams for their performances during the tournaments and the hard work they put into constructing their robots and presenting their projects to the judges,” said SBPLI’s FLL Development Council Member Janet Anderson. “These students not only learned about ways to improve the quality of life for our growing elderly population, but they also learned about teamwork, friendly cooperation and gracious professionalism.”
