Matthew Abbondanza, a member of the Connetquot High School Robotics Team #3137, was announced as this year’s recipient of the Fred Breithut Scholarship of Farmingdale State College. The announcement was made during SBPLI’s Long Island Regional FIRST(For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition at Hofstra University’s David S. Mack Sports Exhibition Complex on April 6.

The Fred Breithut Scholarship was established in November 2009, in partnership with Farmingdale State College. It is for graduating high school seniors who have met specific academic requirements and who have participated in the Long Island FIRST robotics program. The four-year scholarship is for students enrolling in Farmingdale State College with planned studies in science, technology, engineering or mathematics and provides $1,000 per semester.
